Xiaomi patent shows smartphone with up to five pop-up rear cameras

Xiaomi has just unveiled some design patents for Chinese intellectual property agency CNIPA, revealing that the company would be interested in designing new smartphones with retractable cameras, but now raising the camera module level even further to offer a set of features. Multiple sensors.

In the images, taken by Shot Bytes, we see that the company plans at least three different designs: the first with four cameras in all: two front and two rear integrated into the same camera module.

The idea is very similar to what Oppo accomplished with Find X launched in June 2019 to make the back cover as clean as possible without visible photo sensors.

First design solution with four cameras in total: two front and two rear.

The other two design patents reveal that Xiaomi would be interested in increasing the number of photo sensors on their smartphones: instead of offering five rear-facing cameras like Mi Note 10, all cameras would be hidden in the module, that would only be erected when necessary.

The company would keep both front cameras in both concepts, but we see the second design with three rear cameras and the third design with five cameras.

We don't know if Xiaomi plans to present something similar to what we can see in the images above, but since the registration is just a design patent, everything remains open: the company can announce a new retractable camera flagship of up to seven cameras in the retractable module, but maybe it can also put the project aside in the coming months. The decision is completely for the company and cannot be argued at this time.

The brand's next flagship, the Mi 10, is due to be officially unveiled in February this year, following the same 2019 announcement and launch window.
