Xiaomi tests in MIUI 11 a special brightness mode to improve visibility in the sun

When Xiaomi presented what would be its new layer for Android, MIUI 11, it unveiled a long list of features that, as we have seen, has not been fully implemented since its launch. The app drawer, for example, is already sliding from China but is not yet international and the same goes for other improvements that are coming slowly.

The layer of the Chinese manufacturer for Android 10 continues to evolve since its arrival, and now XDA has revealed that there is a new function already in the testing phase. A boost of brightness for when the phone is in direct sunlight and, apparently, we can connect and disconnect at will: Sunlight Mode.

Automatic brightness off ... unless there is a lot of light

The peaks of extreme brightness are common in some manufacturers when we talk about OLED screens, either with pure technology or with modifications in the style of Samsung AMOLED. The screen provides moments of very high maximum brightness, superior to those that the phone offers with normal use, for situations of complex visibility. Specifically, when we try to use the screen under a very strong light bulb. That is sunlight.

These brightness peaks are never sustained, due to battery savings and the durability of the panel itself, but allow visibility to improve promptly in case we need to use the screen at that precise moment. Now it seems that Xiaomi tests a similar mode in MIUI 11, and that test has been hunted by the XDA Developers team.

The particular mode is called Sunlight Mode and appears in the screen settings, within the section in which we set the brightness of it. We have the classic scroll bar to adjust the brightness if we have deactivated the automatic adjustment, and also the button to activate it when we deem it necessary. And under them the new "Sunlight mode" or mode for sunlight.

A curiosity in this way is that it only works when automatic brightness is off. With it, we indicate to the phone that we do want to intervene in a very specific situation: when the light sensor on the screen detects that there is a large amount of light affecting it. In case we have automatic brightness activated, this enhancement will already come standard with the phone.

XDA Developers account that the mode would be activated when, with automatic brightness off, the screen registered a brightness level greater than 12,000 lumens for at least 5 seconds of time. The panel would illuminate to the maximum of its possibilities, and the mode would be deactivated when the ambient light dropped below these 12,000 lumens for a period of 2 seconds. Everything would then return to normal.

As we say, for now, it is a test of MIUI 11 that, once concluded, should be released for all the company's phones. It will be interesting to check at this time if this mode for sunlight will work on all phones or only on models with an OLED panel. Although it is a timely activation of automatic brightness under certain conditions, perhaps all Xiaomi with MIUI 11 end up counting on it.
